Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Medieval History Archive (the “Catalogue”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Catalogue. We reserve the right to update these terms at any time; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
Lawful Personal Use
The Catalogue is provided for lawful, personal, non-commercial purposes. You may browse, read, download, and share ebooks for personal study, education, or enjoyment. Any commercial use, redistribution for profit, or systematic downloading of substantial portions of the Catalogue requires prior written permission from the catalogue project.
Prohibited Misuse
You must not:
- Use the Catalogue for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
- Attempt to interfere with the operation of the Catalogue, including introducing malware, overloading servers, or disrupting access.
- Engage in automated extraction (scraping, spidering, or data mining) of content without explicit permission.
- Reproduce, modify, or create derivative works of the Catalogue’s editorial content, including summaries, notes, or annotations, except as permitted for personal use.
Automated Extraction and Interference
Automated tools or scripts that systematically retrieve content from the Catalogue are prohibited unless expressly authorized. We employ reasonable measures to detect and block abusive access; circumventing these measures is a violation of these terms. If you have a legitimate research need for bulk access, please contact the catalogue project.
Bibliographic and Transcription Limitations
The Catalogue provides digital versions of historical texts, many of which are transcriptions or scans of older editions. While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that every transcription is error-free or that every bibliographic detail is complete. Users should verify critical references against authoritative sources. Editorial notes and summaries reflect the catalogue project’s interpretation and are not definitive scholarly statements.
Copyright and Public-Domain Status
Most ebooks in the Catalogue are drawn from sources believed to be in the public domain in Canada, where the catalogue project is based. However, copyright laws vary by jurisdiction. It is your responsibility to determine the legal status of any work before using it in a manner that may infringe copyright. Some works may be subject to copyright protection in certain countries. The Catalogue does not guarantee that every ebook is free of copyright restrictions worldwide.
User Responsibility
You are solely responsible for your use of the Catalogue and for compliance with all applicable laws. You must respect the intellectual property rights of others. If you believe any content infringes your copyright, please notify the catalogue project at the contact address below.
Third-Party Links
The Catalogue may contain links to external websites or resources. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites. Access to linked sites is at your own risk.
Technical Availability
We aim to keep the Catalogue accessible, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. The service may be suspended temporarily for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. We are not liable for any loss arising from unavailability.
Editorial Notes and Presentation
The Catalogue includes editorial content such as introductions, reading notes, and category descriptions. These represent the views of the catalogue project and are not necessarily endorsed by any institution. We may update or remove such content at any time without notice.
Rights-Holder Notices
If you are a rights-holder and believe that any material on the Catalogue infringes your rights, please contact the catalogue project at editor@epefe.com. We will promptly investigate and, if appropriate, remove the material.
Warranty Disclaimer
The Catalogue and its content are provided “as is” and “as available,” without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. No warranty is given that the Catalogue will meet your requirements or be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Medieval History Archive and its editor shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or data, arising out of or related to your use of the Catalogue, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid (if any) to access the Catalogue.
Suspension of Abusive Access
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to any user who violates these terms, engages in abusive behavior, or uses the Catalogue in a manner that harms our systems or other users. Suspension may be immediate without prior notice.
Service Changes
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Catalogue at any time, including content, features, or availability, without liability. We will endeavor to provide notice of significant changes, but are not obligated to do so.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms of Use is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable.
